Cities XXL

So this game was announced about a month ago...

Here's the trailer for it:

The game doesn't look much different from previous titles, but offers some key features such as multi-core support. Looking forward to it :).

They've posted a new image on their FB page, which is the only place they are letting people know about the new developments...

We’ve tried and we are sure of one thing: the cities in Cities XXL are so huge that you wouldn’t want to run them on foot!

Why have they added the amount of calories burned? The stats are cool nonetheless.

The image seems to suggest that they have updated the UI, which I am really looking forward to them having done. The old UI actually looks ugly and is hard to navigate.

FHI has created a page highlighting the new features in Cities XXL.

http://www2.citiesxl.com/en/game-intro

Notable features:

1000+ unique-looking buildings to bring your city to life

47 Architectural styles from many different cultures around the world

NEW: Over 65 varied landscapes including 5 new environments to develop on, from snowy alps to green meadows and seaside resorts

NEW: A powerful and improved game engine for an experience that stretches your city to the limits

NEW: Many different resources to exploit or produce, and to import or export, thanks to the improved trading system and the new freight airports.

Fine management of road traffic and public transportation networks (buses, railways)

NEW: New ‘green’ options such as industrial building upgrades, and all-new ecological structures like the park & ride bus company and bicycle rental services

NEW: Localized pollution levels to target and manage, including noise and smoke

NEW: New skies and moods to set the perfect backdrop to your cityscape

NEW: Create, share and download more easily an endless new supply of user-created content, thanks to the integration of Steam Workshop.

Now this is something I have been waiting a long time for!

Aldini, thanks for the detailed posting on the new features.

Ya looks like some good stuff going on still with this game .

Agreed. Glad to see at least one Simmanian member dedicated to keeping up with the game :).

Steam has apparently moved the release date to February 5th. It also appears that the game will only be available via Steam since CXXL has been integrated with the Steam Workshop to download mods and such.

You know I just wanted to say to not expect a lot from FHI on this game, since the company who developed CXL was Monte Cristo.

MC is now defunct, and while FHI has total access to the code and such, they are only the publishers and they can totally hire coders to do the job. It appears that they have a small squad working on CXXL, including modders and other custom content creators from XLNation.

They might have just added or rewrote a few things to the game engine to fix the problem. It would be great to have rewritten the whole thing, but alas. 4 days left and still not much news so far, not even a gameplay video or a screenshot showing the new UI.
